About

River Valley Sun is an ultra-local community newspaper created by agelessNB Publishers Theresa Blackburn and Stephen Chisholm, along with former Bugle-Observer Editor Jim Dumville. This 24-page tabloid-size newspaper is published 12 times a year and aims to be a gathering place where organizations, non-profits, businesses, church and service groups, and volunteers can share their stories, event news, and information at no cost. The River Valley Sun's mission is to share positive and uplifting feature stories, as well as information on local community events and minor sports that often go unnoticed by mainstream media. With the support of advertising and community donations, this free newspaper aims to strengthen the community by fostering connections between neighbors.

Lissa Harris

@lissaharris

Lissa Harris is a talented creator who has made a significant impact in the world of writing and journalism. As the former editor of the Watershed Post, she played a crucial role in providing local news to the Catskills community. During her tenure, Lissa showcased her exceptional skills by delivering innovative disaster coverage, particularly during the Hurricane Irene floods. Her collaborative approach with the community and fellow reporters ensured that vital information reached those who needed it most. Despite facing challenges that ultimately led to the closure of the Watershed Post, Lissa's passion for her craft remains unwavering as she continues to freelance and contribute to community news and information work. Currently involved with The River, a Hudson Valley news startup, Lissa is dedicated to covering coronavirus news in the region. Her commitment to this fast-moving news disaster situation is evident through her real-time collaboration with other local reporters. Not only has she revived the old website to host their collaborative efforts, but she is also working on organizing community information by county. This valuable resource will allow people to access the latest coronavirus-related announcements from local governments, hospitals, schools, prisons and jails, businesses, and more. Lissa's determination stems from her desire to serve her community rather than engaging in marketing work. She prioritizes her role as a volunteer firefighter in training and values her family's deep roots in the area. While uncertain about how long she will be formally employed by The River or how long the COVID-19 situation will persist, Lissa remains focused on doing her job diligently. Any support she receives will primarily go towards addressing the financial obligations incurred while running a local news outlet. Lissa Harris is truly an inspiring creator who embodies resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to serving her community through her exceptional writing and journalism skills.
