Bi-monthly meetings are held, expertly facilitated by shea, Cody, and other LGBTQ+ teachers, to foster community building and in-depth discussions about the chosen literature. Love and LiteraTea is open to high school students who identify as LGBTQ+, including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and beyond. The platform is dedicated to centering the voices of Black, Indigenous, People of Color in their application process. What sets Love and LiteraTea apart from traditional English/Language Arts courses is the absence of grading or required assignments. This liberating environment ensures that members never fail nor fall behind on any assignments – it's all about celebrating LGBTQ+ stories that are often overlooked in K-12 spaces. Love and LiteraTea focuses on critically discussing and analyzing literature without conforming to the norms of a standard ELA class. It's a space created by and for LGBTQ+ individuals who share a passion for reading, sharing ideas, and engaging in meaningful conversations about books. The inaugural stack includes highly celebrated works by incredible LGBTQ+ authors from around the world such as Gabby Rivera's "Juliet Takes A Breath," Dean Atta's "Black Flamingo," Abdi Nazemian's "Like a Love Story," Aiden Thomas's "Cemetery Boys," Mark Oshiro's "Anger is a Gift," and Kacen Calender's "Felix Ever After." Love and LiteraTea is truly a transformative platform that fosters inclusivity, education, and the power of storytelling.
