Moonyeka

Moonyeka, a visionary and pleasure practitioner, creates transcendent spaces that center around erotic power and creativity. Their work is deeply influenced by their identity as a queer nonbinary Filipinx femme movement-based storyteller. As the lead visionary of Aswang* Sanctuary, a collective for QT Filipinx individuals, Moonyeka is dedicated to exploring the histories of QT+POC sex workers and the intelligence of working girls through their creative research process. Combining dance and movement forms such as Popping, Tutting, and Animation with modern dance and improvisational methods, Moonyeka's performances are informed by QT Filipinx greatness. They have directed various projects including WHAT'S POPPIN' LADIEZ?! and LIL BROWN GIRLS CLUB, a mentorship program for young girls of color. Moonyeka's work also extends beyond the stage as they organize movement-based healing intensives and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects like LOOB—a biomythography/memoir fusion. With ancestral guidance from the Aswang spirits of Filipino folklore, Moonyeka offers sensually sacred and body experiential spaces to uplift communities that have shaped them. By transmuting their own trauma, they have learned to create and close portals, re-myth stories, and shape-shift themselves into irresistible fantasy realms.
