Poetry, Plants, & Psyche

@poetryplantspsyche

Mary Ellen, also known as Poetry, Plants, & Psyche, is a creator who has masterfully crafted a curiosity shop of the heart at the borderlands of inspiration. With her deep understanding of the human spirit, she has created a heart-centered community that caters to lovers of poetry and mystery or anyone with a curiosity for the poetic. Each month, Mary Ellen takes us on a journey exploring the poetics of soul nourishment, deep psyche, practices of listening and attentiveness, and soulfulness. Her belief in the living green world shines through as she encourages each participant to connect with their personal calling and our collective moment in history. Throughout the month, readings and book suggestions related to the topic are provided, culminating in a live poetry and discussion circle on Zoom every third Wednesday. For those seeking even more engagement, there is an option to join the Facebook group page for further discussion and sharing. In this space, Mary Ellen offers solace to those who feel anxious and disheartened. She invites us to move beyond small conversations and dive into the realm of Big Ideas and the arts of the possible. If you carry the unsayable in your chest or are yearning for courageous conversations with your inner world, Poetry, Plants, & Psyche offers a sanctuary where dreams, mysticism, and folk magic converge. Mary Ellen's multifaceted background as a writer, teacher, wildcrafter, and poetry therapist shines through in her work. With extensive experience working with non-profits globally while raising five children, she now resides in an old haunted farmhouse in southern Appalachia where she cultivates wild herbs and flowers based on old-world folk traditions. Her non-traditional undergraduate degree in Poetry and Community Health and training with The Institute for Poetic Medicine have equipped her with a unique perspective on healing through language. Additionally, her studies in archetypal psychology through the Center for Applied Jungian Studies add depth to her offerings. Mary Ellen's dedication to poetry and creative writing extends beyond her online community, as she has been teaching these crafts to veterans with PTSD for eight years. As the host of the Farmhouse Poetry Series, she facilitates eclectic circles in poetry, dreamwork, depth psychology, and earth practices. Her exceptional talent has been recognized through various accolades, including being named a 2016 Resilient Woman Leader of the Year by Asheville Resilient Women's Foundation and receiving nominations for the prestigious Pushcart Prize in Poetry. Her work has been published by esteemed platforms such as Zymbol magazine, Americans for the Arts, and Chapel Hill Press. Mary Ellen's passion for poetry and her ability to create an inclusive space for exploration make her a true gem in the world of creators.
