Bad Camper

@badcamper

Bad Camper, the brainchild of Matthew Fisherkeller, also known as Fish, is a creator who delves into the realms of music, music videos, and photography. Fish's artistic journey began when he embarked on a life-changing adventure cycling around the world for nine months armed with only his guitar. It was during this soul-searching expedition that Fish penned the songs that would later grace Bad Camper's debut album, "What You Love Comes Along." The music of Bad Camper intertwines indie rock with alternative and folk influences, resulting in a distinct sound that captivates listeners. While Fish's vocals evoke the spirit of vocalists like Brendon Urie, the album also draws inspiration from the heartfelt harmonies reminiscent of early releases from of Monsters and Men, the introspective lyricism akin to The Head and the Heart, and the infectious energy found in Young the Giant's music. Prior to his globetrotting escapades, Fish grew up in a musically inclined family in the San Francisco Bay Area. He initially discovered his passion for music at a tender age when he picked up the drums at just nine years old. Later on, he pursued his love for music by earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees in the field. However, an unexpected turn of events altered Fish's path when a long-term romantic relationship came to an end. As he contemplated his life's purpose, Fish was drawn to support the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota during their protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline. His involvement led him to spend three transformative months at Sacred Stone Camp where he took charge of running the kitchen while simultaneously crafting ideas that would shape Bad Camper's creative vision. Deeply inspired by this profound experience, Fish embarked on an extraordinary solo cycling trip across various parts of the world including Europe and North Africa. Armed with only his bike and trusty guitar, he found solace in reconnecting with himself and his dreams, drawing inspiration from the places he visited and the people he encountered along the way. It was during this nine-month odyssey that Fish conceptualized and penned the majority of the songs that would eventually grace Bad Camper's debut album. Upon returning home, Fish enlisted the help of long-time friends Thomas Levy on bass guitar, Lily Sorenson on vocals, Jordan Latini on lead guitar, and Mia Bella D'Augelli on violin, along with producer David Lipps, to meticulously craft the songs found on What You Love Comes Along. As Bad Camper gears up for the release of their highly anticipated debut album in the summer of 2020, fans can eagerly anticipate a treasure trove of music videos, captivating behind-the-scenes footage, and exhilarating renegade camper van performances housed within their custom converted van.
