Black Light Arts Collective

@blacklightartscollective

Black Light Arts Collective (BLAC) is an incredible platform that is dedicated to creating opportunities for Black artists to lead and thrive. This collective, consisting of both Black queer and straight artists, aims to provide a safe and inclusive space where artists can come together to manifest ideas, stories, and expressions of the Black imagination. Since their introduction in June 19, 2020, BLAC has already achieved numerous goals with the generous support of donors and volunteers. Now, they are seeking $75,000 to further their mission and ensure their long-lasting impact on the culture of Black art. Despite launching during the challenging times of COVID-19, BLAC has proven its commitment to redistributing artistic knowledge outside of the universal lens. They have successfully served the community through virtual readings, book giveaways featuring works by Black authors, free poetry workshops with renowned poet Morgan Parker, virtual workshops, and the publication of their first zine showcasing diverse art forms. BLAC's team comprises playwrights, poets, fiction writers, actors, designers, and artists from various disciplines, allowing them to offer a wide range of art practices and experiences to a community of Black artists who may not have had access to such opportunities before. By supporting BLAC, you will contribute to future events like free monthly workshops, play productions and readings, in-person events in partnership with local art spaces, wellness series, monetary stipends for invited artists and guest collective members, and the hiring of part-time directors for greater outreach. Looking ahead, BLAC envisions hosting community meet-ups for Black artists called "The Hot Link," hiring paid staff members, organizing quarterly open mic nights in Southern California and Northern California, establishing a mentorship program for writers, producing full-length new plays, offering art therapy group sessions virtually and in person, launching a community reintegration art program for recently penalized and incarcerated artists looking to express their stories creatively, expanding with chapters in multiple cities, creating BLAC Houses in historically Black communities to provide affordable housing for artists, and publishing more books. The long-term goal is to develop a strong staff, teachers, and volunteer base while preserving the essence of Black art. With the uncertainty that lies ahead, it is crucial to protect and nurture Black art, both emerging and seasoned. You can contribute to this mission by donating monthly or making a one-time donation on their website at www.blacklightartscollective.com. Thank you for your time and considering investing in BLAC's vision.
